I got my medical degree and recently earned my doctorate from the University of Brescia Medical School - Italy. I spent most of my PhD as a visiting student in Jim Bower's lab at Caltech (now at UTSA), where, employing a combination of different electrophysiological techniques, I studied the olfactory cortex of anesthetized rats. I joined Don Katz' lab in September 2003. The focus of my current research is the study of brain dynamics in awake behaving rats. In particular I am interested in the evolution of brain activity trough time, in the relationship between different brain areas and in studying how activity and correlation evolve before and after learning. I also have a very strong interest toward animal behavior and I am currently thinking (activity which occupies a conspicuous part of my day) on integrating the study of brain dynamics with an ethological approach. |
