Title: A multivariable Chinese remainder theorem and Diophantine approximation
Abstract: The problems of counting and constructing lattice points near a curve or surfaces have relations with dynamical systems theory as well as number theory. We explain the relations using a lattice point result which can be proven with elementary methods and using the language of dynamical systems. In the multi-dimensional part, the quest leads to multi-dimensional Chinese remainder type problems. In a second part of the talk, we give an informal panorama of some relations between number theory and dynamical systems.
