The Brandeis University Cheerleading Squad is a chartered, competitive club sport created for Brandeis students for the purpose of expressing enthusiasm and support for the community at Brandeis. Under the direction of Coach Julie Bernas, the team aims to motivate and excite audiences by integrating athleticism through cheers, sidelines, dancing, tumbling, and stunting in performances. Although the performances are primarily exhibited at the Men's and Women's Varsity Basketball home games, the cheerleading squad strives to promote school pride and spirit at various events on campus as well as competitions throughout New England.
The team practices two days-a-week (for approximately 6-8 hours total) on the far left indoor tennis courts in the Gosman Sports Center. Practices are adjusted to fit the schedules of the team members as well as the Men's Basketball games and upcoming competitions. Beginning in mid-September, the season runs to the end of March. During the season, the team attends gymnastics training and conditions with both cardiovascular and weight-lifting workouts. In preparation for every upcoming season, the cheerleaders attend a UCA directed cheer camp.
