Chloe Bird, Ph.D.

Chloe Bird, Ph.D. is an Associate Behavioral Scientist at RAND, where she conducts interdisciplinary research on the impact of gender on health and health care, particularly on the contribution of gender differences in social and economic resources to the development of illness and quality of care. While working on the Handbook of Medical Sociology, she was an assistant professor in the Center for Gerontology and Health Care Research at Brown University.

She is interested in understanding how the social organization of men's and women's lives, including their gender roles and family structures, contributes to differences in their care and whether the resulting differences in care are appropriate. Her research has examined the contribution of gender inequality in the labor force and the home to women's excess psychological distress, gender differences in the opportunity for and consequences of alternative career paths, and gender differences in processes of care among the elderly.
