Allen M. Fremont, M.D., Ph.D.

Allen M. Fremont, M.D., Ph.D. is a medical sociologist and a primary care physician. He worked on the Handbook while he was a Fellow in the Harvard Faculty Development and Fellowship Program in General Internal Medicine, at the Department of Health Care Policy and Brigham & Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He currently works as a researcher at RAND in Santa Monica with a clinical appointment at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in West Los Angeles and an academic appointment at the University of California, Los Angeles. His research interests include the impact of social and psychological factors on health, and the effects of non-clinical factors, including patient, physician, and organizational characteristics on care and health outcomes. His current research examines the impact of patient-centered processes of care such as communication, continuity, and emotional support on health outcomes among myocardial infarction patients.
