Michael S. Goldstein (Ph.D. Brown University 1971) is Professor and Associate Dean in the School of Public Health at UCLA, where he also serves as Professor of Sociology. He has a longstanding interest in studying innovative changes among health professionals. His work in this area has included studies of the changing relationships of chiropractors to conventional medicine, how physicians have adapted to changes in the marketplace for medical services, the factors associated with the identification of some physicians as "holistic", the use of homeopathy by health professionals, and the use of self-help groups by cancer patients. He is the author of The Health Movement: Promoting Fitness in America (Macmillan 1992), Alternative Health Care: Medicine, Miracle or Mirage? (Temple University Press 1999), and the editor of 50 Simple Things You Can Do to Change Your Life (Earthworks Press 1992). | |
