Several state parks are nearby, as are several ski areas (Okeemo, Crotched, amongst others). Being in the mountains there are no shortage of woods and hiking, and several ponds and lakes close by (Ashuelot and Highland) and further (Sunapee) provide water activities. Hillsborough's claim to fame is that it is the birthplace of Franklin Pierce, our ninth president. His homestead is on the road to Washington, nine miles from my family house.
