CINEMA
India the largest film making
country in the world. In Mumbai alone, they produce
approximately 1000 movies a year. This figure is based on a recent
Business Week estimate. This figure does not include the other
various regional movies that are made in India. However, this
figure includes the several "Bollywood" movies that are made
annually. Bollywood is
a term used for movies made in Bombay (now known as Mumbai). Obviously, it is a take on the word "Hollywood"
which is essentially the HQ for western cinema.
Movies began in India in the late 1800s and have grown
and evolved with time. The only constant in Indian movies is that
they will leave you feeling good! Most will have songs and dances
in there, but just keep in mind that these elements as integral to the
storyline as the rest of the movie.
With increased recognition in the west, actors like Hrithik Roshan,
Aishwarya Rai, Kareena Kapoor, and Shahrukh Khan are becoming household
names even in the US/UK.
Who knows what else is in store for Indian cinema in
the future as its popularity continues to grow worldwide...
