• Chapters 1-3
• Chapters 4-7
• Chapters 8-11
• Index
• 2017-09-11 HW1
• 2017-09-18 HW2
• HW3 due Mon 9/25: Chap 2 Homework. Do problems 3a,3b,5,7,8,9,14,20.
• Quiz #1: Wed 9/27 in class. Material: Chapters 1-2. You may bring a two-sided letter size cheat sheet. Note that solutions to HW3 will be posted before the test. Late HW will not be accepted after the posting.
• Your Math 22a TA will be our graduate student Changxin Ding (X6-3095, Goldsmith 111.) He will have office hours every Tuesday and Thursday 3-4.
• HW4 due Wed 10/4: Chap 2 Homework. Do problems 6a,13,19,22a,24,28a.
• In #24, think about how the Best Approximation theorem would apply. In #28a, try to bring ||B|| to the other side.
• HW5 due Wed 10/11: Chap 3 Homework. Do problems 1,4,6,11, 22b, 23a, 23b, 23e
In #1, it is easier if you find the inverse of A first. In #22b, think about the identity (1-x)(1+x+x^2)=1-x^3. For 23a, 23b, 23e, each one should be no more than a three-line proof.
• HW6 due Wed 10/18: Chap 3 Homework. Do problems 17c,17e, 18,19; AND Chap 4 Homework. Do problems 1a-1e.
• HW7 due Wed 10/25: Chap 4 Homework. Do problems 2, first part of 3, 4,5, 9,10,13,14
In #2, apply Gram-Schmidt to the basic solutions. In #3, write down vectors that span the subspace and then find a basis among them. In #10, rank(A)=3 (why?); write down a system of 2 equations whose basic solutions will allow you to form A.
• Quiz #2: Wednesday 11/1 in class. Material: Chapters 3-4. You may bring a two-sided letter size cheat sheet.
