Professional activities
My work addresses international trade, finance, investment and economic integration, with emphasis on East Asia. I have been a member of the Brandeis Economics Department since 1974,and served as the founding dean of the Brandeis International Business School (1994-2006). I am also a Senior Fellow of the East-West Center and have had a variety of consulting assignments, including with the World Bank, OECD, the United Nations, the Asian Development Bank and other public and private organizations. My AB and PhD degrees are from Harvard. As the Convenor of the East-West Dialogue, I edit an East-West Center series that proposes and promotes innovative policy, business, and civic initiatives to enhance the US-Asia partnership. For more information, see: I was the Principal Consultant for the Asian Development Bank study: Emerging Regionalism: A Partnership for Shared Prosperity. This study is downloadable now, with a final volume of research papers to appear shortly.
