Philosophy:  My chief areas of research are aesthetics and the philosophy of Kant, but my interests cover most of the history of philosophy, especially the early modern period, and value theory in general.  I am at present Visiting Scholar at Brandeis University, as well as the administrator of the Boston-Area Philosophy Mailing List and the Boston-Area Philosophy CalendarI have previously taught at Virginia Tech, the University of Cincinnati, Brandeis University, Boston University, Suffolk University, and Bentley College. For further information, please visit my philosophy page.

Music:  As a singer, I have performed in principal roles in opera and operetta, in choruses, and as a recitalist.  For further information, please visit my music page.

Other biographical information:  I was born and raised in Seattle, attended college at the University of Washington and Stanford University (A.B., Philosophy with Honors in Humanities, 1982), and did graduate study in philosophy at the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Chicago, where I received my Ph.D. in philosophy in 1998.
