Title: Finiteness properties of arithmetic groups over function fields

Abstract: In this talk I'll describe proofs that SL(2,F[t]) is not finitely generated (a theorem of Nagao) and that SL(3,F[t]) is not finitely presented (a theorem of Behr). Here F[t] denotes a ring of polynomials in one variable with coefficients in a finite field F. A generalization of these results will also be explained. This is joint work with Kai-Uwe Bux.
