In addition to World AIDS Week, SGAC put on numerous events, including film screenings, fundraisers, and participating in the Rock the Vote campaign.

Alicia in Africa
We screened the Keep a Child Alive
documentary, Alicia in Africa, in Shapiro
Campus Center. The film follows Alicia Keys
as she travels Africa investigating the effects
of HIV / AIDS and different community
organizations set up to deal with the
SGAC New England
Regional Summit
Members of Brandeis’ Chapter of SGAC
attended the Summit which took
place over two days at Harvard.
We sold CandyGrams - little ziploc bags containing
candy, a condom, and a red AIDS ribbon - for $2.
Brandeis students were able to write a message
for their friends and send the CandyGrams to
fellow Brandeis students through intercampus mail.
All profits benefitted SCORE-OVC.
Lose the Shoes (Kick AIDS)
The Grassroots Soccer organization uses soccer
as a means to teach children about HIV / AIDS
in Africa. They hold a 3v3 soccer tournament at
Brandeis every semester. We held a raffle at the
event (prizes were soccer balls!), where
participants had to fill out a quiz about
HIV / AIDS correctly in order to enter.
Rock the Vote
This event was part of a Brandeis effort to register
students to vote. Held on the Great Lawn, there
were tables where students could register to vote
and register for an absentee ballot. Various clubs,
including SGAC, presented non-partisan information
on the candidates that relate totheir clubs. We
displayed information on John McCain’s and Barack
Obama’s stances on various HIV/AIDS related issues,
such as needle exchange programs and sex
education programs.
