The Football Club at Brandeis University was established in
the fall of 1998. That year the first ever BFC team went
undefeated in league to capture the championship at the Milford
Bubble. (see article at the right)
With so much success in our first semester, the Football
Club was voted to be the best club on campus by the University
Student Senate. We were also recognized for being the only
undefeated sports club at Brandeis.
In the 1999 Fall season the BFC joined the Strike One Soccer
Center in Burlington, MA. The first ever coed BFC team made
a solid showing in league before bowing out in the playoffs.
The men's team had several returning players from the Spring
Championship season. They finished second in league and
made it to the semi-finals of the playoffs.
The fall of 1999 was a new milestone for the BFC when it
played its first ever intercollegiate matches against the
Holy Cross Soccer Club. The men's team won 4-1 at Holy Cross
and 4-0 when they visited Brandeis. The coed team was able to
avenge their 3-0 loss away by taking the second match 1-0 when
Holy Cross came to town.
The club also participated in the Major League Soccer
Championship festivities in Boston and Foxboro Stadium
where 30 club members volunteered for the MLS Awards
Ceremony at the John Hancock Center and Gala reception
at the Prudential Center.
The spring of 2000 we entered three league teams in the
open division at the Milford Bubble, determined to repeat
as league champs. Two BFC teams made it into the playoffs,
and won their quarterfinal matches before having to face
each other in the semi-finals. Obviously, BFC won the match
and went on to win the league championship once again.
The 2000-2001 BFC league teams participated in indoor and
outdoor leagues in Acton, MA. For the first time ever, the
BFC hosted a New England Intercollegiate Tournament on October 28, 2000.
Participating schools included UCONN, Conn College, Holy Cross, Boston
College, WPI, Brandeis GSIEF and the BFC. Photos are available
from that tournament on our photo page. We also hosted a spring
tournament on April 29, 2001, with similar rivals, UCONN, Conn College,
Boston College, Holy Cross and Brandeis GSIEF, as well as first timer
Harvard Business School, who won the tournament.
The BFC continues to participate in soccer leagues and intercollegiate
matches in the Boston area, If you would like to join the club (Brandeis students)
