Spermicide is a chemical that kills sperm. Spermicide is only effective against pregnancy; it does not significantly reduce the risk of STI or HIV transmission. Spermicide applied to condoms reduces the risk of pregnancy if the condom breaks during intercourse. Nonoxynol-9 is a very common type of spermicide. Most spermicidally lubricated condoms are treated with Nonoynol-9. Spermicide can also be found in the form of foam, jelly or cream. SSIS sells both Delfen Vaginal Contraceptive Foam and Gynol Jelly (used for diaphragms). SSIS also sells a spermicidal product called Vaginal Contraceptive Film, VCF. Spermicide is not harmful and is safely absorbed by the body after sex. It does not cause cancer or any other disease. It is possible to be allergic to Nonoxynol-9. If, after using spermicide or a spermicidally lubricated condom you experience irritation, you should stop using spermicide. There are other types of spermicides, such as Octoxynol-9 and Nonoxynol-15. SSIS only sells products containing Nonoxynol-9. SSIS sells the following spermicidal products:
