My interest is in HCI and usability for medical technology, especially safety-critical applications. In addition to the biomedical engineering problems involved, there is a variety of cognitive issues to be considered in this area - human error, risk analysis and cause analysis, decision-making and problem solving, collaboration, etc.

My previous work (described on this page) has been in Human-Computer Interaction with a cognitive engineering approach, specifically in collaborative applications, such as those for Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) and Computer-Supported Collaborative Work (CSCW).

Research

GrewpEdit usability evaluation (with T. Hickey and K. Granville).

  • GrewpEdit is a synchronous collaborative application that supports TA-ing online. Undergraduate students use it to complete computer science assignments online together with their TAs.

Groupware-Mediated Cooperative Programming project - funded by NSF.
