Jim Zotz bio: The architect of the Brandeis University swimming and diving program, Jim Zotz took over the reigns prior to the 1978-79 academic year. A 1975 graduate of Niagara University (NCAA Division I) with a bachelor of science in physical education and a minor in philosophy, Zotz was a four year swimmer for the Purple Eagles. He was a school record holder, captain and a four year finalist at the conference championships in four separate individual events. Coach Zotz received his Masters Degree from Springfield College concentrating in exercise physiology in 1977. After a year as head coach of an AAU club in New York, he moved on to Brandeis. In addition to his duties as head coach, Zotz is the Aquatics Director and a lecturer in the Physical Education department. Coach Zotz is also an active lecturer at swimming clinics on the topics of goal setting, nutrition, and stroke technique. For the past two years he has also been coaching Masters Swimming and Tri-Athletes. He is renowned for his enthusiastic approach and has a strong history of getting the most from his athletes. The diving coach is Jim Brainerd and the assistant swim coach is Ellen Liss.
