The clubs is found for the purpose of teaching and educating the Brandeis student body on the benefits Tai Chi Chuan.

Tai Chi Chuan is slow and not strenuous. Benefits of Tai Chi Chuan have said to include good health and longevity. But most important of all, learning and practicing the movements are very relaxing. It is an ideal exercise for the stressful life of being a student at Brandeis.

The Tai Chi Chuan technique that is taught in the club is an abbreviated version of the full Tai Chi Chuan which has many hundreds of movements. The abbreviated version called Taste of Tai Chi, only has twelve movement. It is developed by Master Bow Sim Mark for a cable TV series. Although it contains only twelve movements, it has the essential characteristic of the full Tai Chi Chuan.

Along with the main Tai Chi Chuan movements, students are also taught the Tai Chi Basic Training (stretching, waist turning, joint flexibility and stancework), Tai Chi Pushing Hands, and an introduction to some basic Tai Chi weapons (ie. the fan). Don't be too hung up on the details, the whole point of the club is to have fun and relax while learning Tai Chi Chuan.
