PAPER TOPIC ONE

EXTRA CREDIT

If you wish to receive "extra credit" you must answer the following question:

What are the central arguments put forward in three of the following four essays and/or excerpts by William James, William Clifford, Bertrand Russell and Blaise Pascal.

In (1) the essay by William James on "The Will to Believe", delivered to the Yale and Brown Philosophy Clubs and in a PDF File HERE

in (2) "The Ethics of Belief" in a PDF File HERE by William K. Clifford,

in (3) "Why I Am Not a Christian" by Bertrand Russell in the Introduction to Philosophy text, pp. 55-58 and available online by clicking HERE, and

in (4) "The Wager" by Blaise Pascal in the Introduction to Philosophy text, pp. 51-55.

In your identifying and laying out the central arguments out forward in three of the above you may wish to use a separate sheet of paper in each case.
