Press Release
03/19/2003 - An Alternative To Protesting; Support Our Country and Troops

In light of what appears to be an impending war against Saddam Hussein,
United We Stand would like to announce our “Support America Campaign”.

On the day after war formally breaks out against Iraq, we encourage all
students to attend their regularly scheduled classes – even if your
professors do not. Unlike the people suffering under the tyrannical
Iraqi regime, we are fortunate to live in a country where protest is
permitted and to attend a University that promotes the free exchange of
ideas. By remaining in class and continuing our studies, we will be
thanking our troops who fight to protect this right.

Furthermore, we encourage everyone to wear a yellow ribbon or a red,
white, and blue ribbon as a demonstration of your support and solidarity
with the United States of America and American and allied troops and to
symbolize the hope that our troops will return home safe and victorious.

We suggest that individuals place their ribbons visibly on their
clothing, jackets, and backpacks. Those with automobiles may also
consider tying a ribbon to their vehicle’s antenna as a further
demonstration of support.

United We Stand will be distributing complimentary ribbons in the Usdan
Student Center on the day after war begins.

“It is the soldier, not the reporter,
Who has given us freedom of the press.
It is the soldier, not the poet,
Who has given us freedom of speech.
It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
Who has given us the freedom to demonstrate.
It is the soldier,
Who salutes the flag,
Who serves beneath the flag,
And whose coffin is draped by the flag,
Who allows the protestor to burn the flag.”
