make it difficult to understand social reality in the
first instance, and they also pose special problems for
creating cyberinfrastructure for the social sciences. But they
also provide interesting challenges for computer
scientists, digital librarians, and social scientists
themselves. Perhaps most importantly, overcoming these problems
provides the opportunity to revolutionize the social
