New modes of training are
also called for, because people enter college and research libraries from a variety of
backgrounds and often without formal LIS training:
Subject-area specialists
’Ä¢ Systems experts
’Ä¢ Development staff
’Ä¢ Administration
These
people will be more effective in their jobs if they get some LIS training,
but they already have advanced degrees, they already have jobs: they’Äôre not
likely to get LIS training in the form of a residential MLS--and maybe not in the form
of an MLS at all.
