New modes of training are also called for, because people enter college and research libraries from a variety of backgrounds and often without formal LIS training:
Subject-area specialists
• Systems
experts
• Development
staff
• Administration
These people will be more effective in their jobs if
they get some LIS training, but they already have advanced degrees, they already have jobs: they’re not likely to
get LIS training in the form of a residential MLS--and maybe not in the form of an MLS at all.
