The University of Virginia is internationally recognized for its innovative use of computers in support of teaching, research, and library collections. The following pages attempt to assemble and describe the many and various centers, services, initiatives, and tools the University sponsors in the area of digital media. We note that no single administrative umbrella covers all of the efforts underway: whether such centralization is desirable might be the subject of some debate, but we think an overview, at least, should be useful, especially if the University hopes to capitalize on these strengths through new degree-granting programs or through outside consulting.
